Ballroom at Maryland, also known as BAM, has been a sports club at the University of Maryland since 1994. BAM competes in collegiate and USA Dance competitions around the central and eastern United States. We are active social dancers and frequent local studios for ballroom, west coast swing, east coast swing, lindy hop, blues, and more. We also teach a variety of free ballroom classes.
BAM is one of the many SGA recognized student groups. We are registered as a sports club with RecWell and help coordinate the ballroom classes offered through Studio A in the Stamp Student Union. Each year we host the largest collegiate ballroom dance competition in the region, DC DanceSport Inferno (DCDI), as well as a smaller syllabus competition, BAM Jam.
Ballroom dancing attracts people of every major, ethnicity, gender, and age. We accept dancers of all levels of experience, with the majority of the club never having danced before joining. BAM is open to the undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral, faculty, and, in some cases, alumni population of our campus.
